It’s Too Noisy In Here…

It's noisy in here, right?

Sorry, is it just me? Okay okay…It's just that I hear a lot of news all the time, from friends, my phone, my family, my kids…

At HER Night, we talked about the noise that's constantly coming at us from all directions. News about the weather, our country, celebrities, and our friends. If I'm being honest, it's just overwhelming white noise.

If it's starting to get to you, believe me, I'm right there with you. I wanted to remind you, whether you were at HER Night or not, God's word and promises still ring true! The good news we shared didn't run out... it's right in front of you!

Here are some tips for how to tune out the bad news and tune into the good stuff:

1. GET CLARITY

First step is to step away from the storm. Sometimes we forget that we can do that! As a mom of four, I totally know that it isn't easy to find quiet moments. But whenever and wherever you can, find a moment to turn off your phone, breathe, and close your eyes... do it! Even if it's sixty seconds in the car while you're parked in the Target parking lot.

"A good person who gives in to a bad person is a muddied spring, a polluted well." Proverbs 25:26 MSG

2. QUESTION YOUR CONSUMPTION

Next step, clear out the clutter! You know those apps that help you remove accounts you forgot you're subscribing to and paying for? You need to do the same thing in your life. That means you'll probably have to do some social media unfollowing. Maybe you'll have to step away from the conversation when your co-worker with all the office tea starts to spill it... I know... it's hard. But it's better in the long run!

"The ear that listens (heeds) to life-giving reproof will dwell among the wise." Proverbs 15:31 ESV

3. EMBRACE CONFESSION

Do you know how powerful your own voice is? Anyone can read a scripture and walk away without feeling any different. But God's Word does something different for us when we begin to speak it over ourselves. So next time you read Jeremiah 29:11 or your favorite verse, say it out loud! Let it replay in your head. Write it down. Confess it. See if the noise of the world can drown out God's truth... it can't!

"Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." Hebrews 11:1 NIV

4. PURSUE YOUR CALLING

Even though we all have our own unique calling that God has placed on our lives, God has also called all of us to: share His good news! The best news - that we don't have to go on living broken, tired, and depressed; that He sent his Son so we can live in freedom, live encouraged, and live knowing that the best is still yet to come.

"The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.  He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners." Isaiah 61:1 NIV
